World Community Service /Greater Victoria Rotary Clubs / Rotary International
The Project Unity Committee (P.U.C.) is made up of representatives
from the eleven Victoria area Rotary clubs based on an idea by PDG
Jack Macaulay and expanded on by Murray Winlaw, Jim Leamy,
and Bill Feyrer.
The purpose of the committee is to be a forum where WCS
representatives from the eleven clubs meet regularly to share
possible program ideas and learn about what Rotary WCS can do
to make a better world.
The focus of the Project Unity Committee is to fund World
Community Service programs/projects around the world that are
eligible for District and R.I. matching grants.
There are many benefits of this forum. Members can network with
each other and other Clubs. In any Rotary year, clubs with limited
funds can now participate in WCS programs by jointly contributing to a P.U.C. sponsored project.
Project Unity has supported a number of grants to projects in Central America and Africa. Last year, some of the PUC clubs funded the purchase of an emergency diesel generator for a hospital in Kampala, Uganda and provided clean water to rural communities in Honduras. Currently, a project is being funded to send two containers of medical and school supplies to Kenya. A program to provide reforestation and community development is slated for Zambia in the not to distant future. A program to purchase medical supplies for a hospital in Cape Town, South Africa is being considered.
Help Support P.U.C. Programs Through Coffee Purchases
In addition to the monies contributed by the member clubs, the P.U.C. has started a fundraising initiative by selling of premium 100% Arabica coffees. Cottage Coffee Company is providing the coffee, website exposure, and marketing resources. The coffee comes in 1 lb. packages complete with a P.U.C label.
100% of all profits from P.U.C. fundraising coffee sales will go to fund P.U.C. programs.
